Camera spends four years in the ocean – pictures are still good

Santa Cruz WharfGreat story over at PetaPixel about the longevity of memory cards and the connecting power of the Internet. The camera in question was dropped into the ocean from a wharf by a tourist. They of course figured that was the end of it and undoubtedly chalked it all up to experience. However fate was to play its hand and after slopping around for four years in the coastal sludge, the camera was recovered with the memory card intact.

The card was cleaned up a bit, but worked perfectly nearly immediately when put into a card reader. The photos from the card were then publicised via the usual social media sites and amazingly, the owners of the photos were found.
