Wallpaper of the Week – Prometheus
About the only thing I’m more excited about than the release of Prometheus in cinemas is the fact that they’re seriously looking at a Blade Runner sequel and have most of the old team on board. Anyway – here’s a terrific wallpaper which was produced by the guys over at the Prometheus website. I’m not a huge fan of the text blocks top and bottom, but they’re pretty easy to snip away.
2048px – An iPad 3 Retina Wallpaper Site
As you may have heard, the iPad 3 has a much higher resolution screen than previous versions which means that all the existing wallpapers out there look a bit pixelated on that amazing screen. 2048px is a site devoted to high resolution Retina wallpapers for iPad 3s. It sports a cool Pinterest style interface and has some great walls in the archives.

It’s been a wee while since we did a nice round-up of minimalist wallpapers and so, in order to save you all from the pain of clicking endlessly through the main online wallpaper archives, I’ve done it for you. The signal to noise ratio in ‘minimalist’ walls is higher than ever, some people clearly believe the word is Greek for ‘Acid and Neon Nightmare’. Anywhere, here we go.

Five Star Wall – Week 1 – January 2012
As someone who moved hemispheres and thus saw a reversal in seasons, it still intrigues me to see winter weather walls at this time of the year. Few of them are as cool as this witner wonderland though. If you’re looking for a cool monochrome wall to adorn your desktop this new year – look no further.

The Desktopography site can be a bit hit and miss, but it does sometimes manage to showcase some good design work. This wallpaper is by Paweł Dąbrowski (better known as Polaus in customisation circles) and he’s produced a superb abstract wallpaper for this year’s ecologically themed exhibition. You can get it, here.

So many months into my Five Star Wall feature and this week I’d like to show off one of my own favourite walls. It’s a photo wall that was taken at a nearby river as an amazing sun was settings over the oyster beds and the mangroves. You can get it, here.

Sumptuous photo wallpaper for you this week, courtesy of Danny Tan (you can find his Flickr photostream here – it’s well worth checking out). It wasn’t that long ago when a desktop wallpaper meant some grim tile and an 8-bit colour scheme. Over the years as our home computers have grown ever more powerful, so has the quality and size of the displays we use with them. This has lead to an explosion on the wallpaper scene, with some truly amazing images now available for us all to personalise our desktop real estate.
I’m a big fan of minimalist wallpapers, but I think it’s a word that suffers from horrendous abuse on wallpaper sites. 95% of the wallpapers uploaded and tagged as minimalist are about as unadorned as an L.A. pimp’s teeth. But I’ve been looking high and low for perfect simple little minimalist wallpapers over the last few months and I’m now ready to show off the autumn collection – 14 great images to adorn your desktop, but not get in the way of work. Shout out to Hellishere for the cool iMac PSD. On with the show …

This week we’re channelling another era of music listening – the vinyl days. As a lapsed DJ I collected a vast amount of records over the years and can still vividly remember the joy of scrutinising the record sleeve while the album or 12″ was playing. Anyway – for sophisticated music lovers everywhere, here’s a wall by Tim Bonvallet. You can get it, here.
